Smith backing Knight Rider
LAST YEAR, the much-talked-about War Envoy, was specifically flown in by Gay Smith to capture the Gold Cup.
The move failed and this year she is sticking to her Bajan-bred creole Knight Rider.
History shows us that Smith is a three-time holder of the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup with Thady Quill, Sharp Impact and Barbados’ all time money earner the creole Zoom. It was 2011 when he became part of history by becoming the first horse to benefit from a Gold Cup winner, Show Me The Money, being disqualified.
Knight Rider is the winner of three stakes races, one of them being the 2013 Massy United Insurance Barbados Derby over 2 000 metres for West Indian bred three-year-olds. In 23 track appearances he has visited the winner’s enclosure on six occasions. (LY)
