St Cath toast club members

PLAYERS and administrators past and present, along with supporters, sponsors and well-wishers were all showered with honours on Friday night when the St Catherine Sports and Social Club put on a lavish awards dinner at the plush Crane Resort Hotel in St Philip.

The occasion represented a fitting climax to the club’s celebration of the capture of the prestigious 2016 Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) Elite Division title in its 84th year of existence.

The more than 100 people gathered at the world-renowned luxury hotel’s Town Hall Restaurant witnessed awards being presented not only to the players of the triumphant Elite Division team – which is sponsored by Crane Resort and Brathwaite Construction Company – but also to a number of stalwarts who have served with distinction in many capacities over the years.

However, pride of place was reserved for Thelston Payne, one the most accomplished personalities, not only of the club but of the entire parish of St Philip. (WH)
