MARK “VENOM” GRIFFITH, the consummate defender, will be going after his fourth Silver Hill Road Tennis crown while the exciting attacker Antonio “Lil Man” Daniel will be firing for his first when the tournament climaxes at the Silver Hill court tonight.
Griffith, who crushed Daniel in the 2015 finals to claim his third crown, had to battle from a set down in a rescheduled semi-finals match against Curtis Jones on Saturday night to reach the finals.
Griffith advanced 16-21, 21-17, 21-12.
Daniel, who lost the 2014 finals to Julian “Michael Jackson” White, battled from game and match point 18-20 against the same opponent, to set up another battle with Griffith 21-18, 13-21, 23-21 in a match which ending controversially.
White defeated Daniel in the World finals last year to claim $20 000, but made a similar slip in allowing Daniel to escape sure defeat in the semi-finals of the Monarchs of the Court. Daniel went on to lose that finals and a brand new car to Griffith.
Tonight’s action begins at seven with Ezekiel “Ezee” Ward battling Nicholas “Nik-Nik” Ellis in the Under-17 finals.
Defending champion Kim Holder will then face Sheldene Walrond in the women’s finals before Ward and Ellis clash again in the in house finals.
The open battle between Daniel and Griffith will close off the night and the 2017 tournament. (KB)
