EVEN BEFORE A VOTE was taken, an Opposition legislator signalled that a contentious amendment to the Barbados Revenue Authority Act would be repealed.
The notice was given by Senator Wilfred Abrahams, who described the change as unfair, draconian and oppressive.
He told the Upper Chamber yesterday morning that it was not right for the Government to demand that Barbadians cleared all taxes, not just those concerning land, before they could part with their property.
“We are going to be back here at some point in time to repeal this piece of legislation. I can say that when next the Barbados Labour Party forms the government, one of the first steps, if this is passed today, is to repeal this piece of legislation. That’s without hesitation, without qualification. We deem it bad,” he vowed. (WILLCOMM)
