Athletes run to their own beat

ATHLETES seeking advancement to the semi-finals of the Pine Hill Dairy National Primary Schools’ Athletics Championships ran to the beat of their own rhythm yesterday at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.

Nya Browne of Christ Church Girls proved she was the fastest girl on the track, striding into first place in both the 100 and 200 metres in the Under-13 division. She clocked an impressive 13.28 and 27.14 seconds, respectively.

In the 100 metres, her counterparts, Shonte Morris of Charles F Broome finished second in 13.60 seconds, and Skye Spencer-Layne of West Terrace Primary finished in 13.83 seconds.

While there was a greater battle in the 200, Samiya Dell of Sharon Primary crossed the finish line in second place in 27.69 seconds, ahead of third-placed Spencer-Layne, who ended in 28.10 seconds. (RA)
