Man charged with wounding following St James shooting

POLICE HAVE ARRESTED and formally charged a 27-year-old St Michael man with wounding in connection with the March 2 shooting incident at Durant’s Village, St James.

He is Leandro Renaldo Dominic Pope, 27, of Reservoir Road, Lodge Hill.

The shooting left 18-year-old Kemal Haynes of Holder’s Hill, St James nursing three gunshot injuries to his body.

Pope faces additional charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of 18 rounds of ammunition, use of a firearm, endangering life and two counts of burglary.

He appeared before Magistrate Wanda Blair in the Holetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday and  pleaded guilty to the burglary charges.

He was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

On the firearm and ammunition charges, Pope was remanded in custody to reappear in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court on March 20.

He will return to the Holetown Court on March 24 in relation to the wounding, endangering life and use of firearm charges. (PR/NB)
