Leewards bowlers strike back

BRIDGETOWN – At tea, Barbados Pride reached 212 for five off 61 overs in their first innings against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes on the first day of their sixth round match in the Digicel Regional 4-Day Tournament at Kensington Oval here Saturday.

Resuming from 116 for two at lunch, Barbados Pride, who won the toss and batted, lost three wickets in the session while adding a further 96 runs in 30 overs.

Gavin Tonge, who had removed left-handed openers Omar Phillips and Anthony Alleyne for six and 11 respectively in the pre-lunch session, added the scalp of Roston Chase for 49.

Fellow fast bowler Alzarri Joseph made a double strike, dismissing Shamarh Brooks for 63 and wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich for a first-ball “duck” in the first over of a new spell.

Tonge has taken three wickets for 28 runs in 12 overs while Joseph has two for 25 in 14 overs. (EZS)
