Leewards staring at defeat against Pride

BRIDGETOWN – Leeward Islands Hurricanes are in dire straits against Barbados Pride at the close of play on the second day of their sixth round match in the Digicel Regional 4-Day Tournament at Kensington Oval here Sunday.

Forced to follow-on with a deficit of 150 runs, the Hurricanes are 16 for four in their second innings.

The not out batsmen are Keacy Carty on 12 and night watchman Gavin Tonge, yet to score.

The wickets to fall in the second innings are openers Jermaine Otto and Montcin Hodge for “ducks”; Alzarri Joseph (1) and Rahkeem Cornwall (3).

Kemar Roach, Miguel Cummins, Roston Chase and Jomel Warrican have each taken a second innings wicket.

Fast bowlers Roach (three for 29) and Cummins (three for 34) had also wrecked the Hurricanes for 163 in 61.2 overs when they batted a first time, replying to Barbados Pride’s total of 313. 

Captain Kevin Stoute chipped in with two for 29.

Nkrumah Bonner top-scored with 70 off 169 balls in 257 minutes. He struck ten fours and shared in a ninth-wicket stand of 73 with tailender Jason Campbell, who made 39 not out.

Leewards’ captain Kieran Powell did not bat in their first innings due to illness and may not take any further part in the match.
