Drug trafficker to spend 12 months in Dodds

A JAMAICAN WOMAN will be spending the next 12 months in prison after admitting to bringing one kilogramme of cannabis into Barbados.

Twenty-five-year-old Octavia Nickoda Lucimia Taylor arrived in the island on Saturday from Jamaica.

She cleared Immigration and was interviewed. A search of her haversack revealed a transparent bag containing cannabis.

Taylor was handed over the police and subsequently charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

She appeared before Magistrate Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell in the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to all the offences. 

Taylor was fined $8 000 Barbados forthwith on the charge of trafficking  but she was unable to pay the fine. The alternative was 12 months in prison.

She was convicted reprimanded and discharged for the other offences. (PR/NB)
