DEFENDING champions UWI Blackbirds succumbed to a fourth defeat, as the disappointing defence of their title continued when matches resumed in the Digicel Premier League on Tuesday night at the Wildey AstroTurf.

Ellerton downed the stuttering champions 2-1 in what was a feisty affair, with captain Damien “Bobby” Walcott and Rosean Brathwaite notching strikes in the 43rd and 63rd minutes, respectively.

Corey “Santa” Barrow had initially given UWI the lead in the 22nd minute.

In an evenly fought contest early on, UWI struck first with Mario Harte and Barrow combining to send the Blackbirds ahead. A move down the left found Harte in an advanced position wide. He turned provider, floating an inviting ball over to Barrow in the middle, who volleyed one time past Jamar Brewster in the Ellerton goal. (ML)
