UPDATE: Man perishes in fire

POLICE ARE CONDUCTING investigations into the circumstances surrounding a house fire of unknown origin which claimed the life of a man.

The name of the 56-year-old has been withheld while family members are informed about the fire at Clarkes Road, Free Hill, Black Rock, St Michael.

Two wood and wall houses received major damage and two other houses had minor damage.

Around 9:28 a.m., police received a report of a fire, at Free Hill and found personnel from the Barbados Fire Service already on the scene. Fire officials reported to the police the charred remains of a human being were discovered in one of the houses.

Three fire tenders and 12 fire officers under the command of Divisional Officer Errol Gaskin responded to the scene.

Parliamentary representative Chris Sinckler and Barbados Labour Party candidate Neil Rowe were both present.

Police are appealing to anyone who can provide any information that can assisting in this investigation to contact the Black Rock Police Station at telephone 4177500, 4177501, Police Emergency 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (8477), or the nearest police station. (PR/SAT)
