THE INAUGURAL Barbados Surf Pro has proven to be a boon for the South Coast after almost 200 international surfers and their entourages descended on the island last week.

The World Surf League Qualifying Series 3 000 event, which took place from April 11 to 16 at Drill Hall Beach, drew surfers from as far away as Japan, as well as from surfing powerhouses United States, Hawaii, Australia and Brazil.

Competitors from 20 countries were on the island for the event.

Louis Venezia, who along with Chris Clarke of Surf Promotions Barbados promoted the event, told the MIDWEEK NATION there was a major knock-on effect on tourism from the international surfing event. (HLE)
