IT WAS SO nice Russell Elcock had to do it twice.
Make that two in a row for the new king of the road, who maintained his unbeaten start to the 2017 Barbados Cycling Union season by winning last week’s hour-long criterium on the Garrison circuit.
The national time trial record holder made his move from the very first lap, breaking away from the pack with Gregory Vanderpool, before holding off the Massy United rider in a sprint for the finish.
In the over-50s, Edward Julien downed fellow independent cyclists Wayne Edwards and Sedwin Jones for the victory, while Junior Proverbs got the better of Reginald Jones in the masters’ 35-49 category.
Vanderpool’s club mate Dominic Howard won the junior division after beating Team Swift’s Luke Staffner and fellow Massy United rider Dillon Gray into second and third respectively.
Massy United got two more victories via Adam Marshall and Jonah Kelly in the tiny mite and BMX boys’ divisions, respectively, while the unattached Brianna Catwell won the BMX female equivalent.
David Cossey made his mark in the debut of the “Easy Riders Group”, winning the new category ahead of fellow independent cyclists Jason Parkinson and Mark Thompson. (JM)
