PEOPLE 60 YEARS and over can apply for the Pensioners’ Rebate on their annual land tax bills at the Barbados Revenue Authority Tax Clinics from this weekend.
Erica Lazare, communication officer with the Authority, explained that this service was being included at the tax clinics to give pensioners the opportunity to apply for the rebate earlier.
“We are continuously looking to see how we can improve service delivery from our organisation. Including this option at the tax clinics gives pensioners an early opportunity to apply for the rebate but we are also hoping that it will help to minimise the traffic we see in our locations during the land tax season,” she said.
Lazare also outlined that persons should be at least 60 years old, in receipt of a pension and live in the property to be eligible for the rebate.
“A taxpayer is only entitled to the pensioner rebate benefit for one residence only. They must be a resident in Barbados for at least 180 consecutive days in a calendar year and no part of the property should be rented or used for carrying on business,” she explained.
“Persons applying for the rebate should walk with their identification card but new applicants also need to produce a proof of pension and a previous land tax bill,” Lazare added.
The Authority’s tax clinics continue this Saturday at Sheraton Centre and Sky Mall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as well as at the Resource Centres at Parkinson, St Michael and Rices, St Philip. (PR)
