Fish Festival ‘fading’

THE OISTINS FISH FESTIVAL, which ended on Monday, remains the climax of the Easter weekend, but the essence of the festival has sunk to an all-time low for some.

A recent trip to the Berinda Cox Fish Market in Oistins by the SATURDAY SUN did not only reveal that the excitement and aim of the Fish Festival may be waning, but was the subject of heated debate between fisherfolk and customers.

Mechelle Clarke, who said she attended the Fish Festival from a child, was concerned the essence of the festival was going and no longer had any bearing on the title.

“Once it was the biggest thing next to Crop Over, but not anymore; the festival is not even about Oistins anymore because they are holding events, like the tattoo, at other locations.”
