JOE HOAD, one of the finest table tennis and darts players this country has produced, is dead.

Hoad, 80, who had been resident in Adelaide, Australia, for more than 40 years, passed away on Thursday night. He was admitted to hospital earlier this week after a bad bout of gastro.

Veteran journalist and table tennis stalwart Sam Wilkinson described Hoad as one of the most complete Barbadian sportsmen, having made a name for himself in table tennis, cricket, darts and draughts.

“He was an exceptional talent. Joe was one of the best table tennis players of his time, an exceptional draughts player and brilliant on the darts board. He was also an above average cricketer,” Wilkinson said. (MK)
