Swim team take a bow
THE RECEPTION WAS not as large or as colourful, but in a touch of irony, Barbados’ CARIFTA swimmers returned to the island on Thursday night with more booty than the more heralded track and field athletes did on Tuesday night.
Interim CEO of the National Sports Council, Jerry Blenman, filled in for Minister Stephen Lashley who had journeyed to the CARIFTA Games in Curacao, and who also welcomed the athletes back home on Tuesday night.
However, the warmth of the two dozen friends and family members, who greeted the swimmers, more than compensated for the small reception and gave due respect to the whopping haul of 39 medals and fifth place the swimmers garnered in The Bahamas. (KB)
