BARBADOS WILL HAVE a comprehensive Children’s Act before the end of the year, say officials.
Faith Marshall-Harris, UNICEF’s children’s champion for Barbados, said the draft legislation was now before Cabinet for approval. This was confirmed by Minister of Social Care Steve Blackett.
The act would bring together all the pieces of legislation relating to children, with additional compliance measures from the United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child.
Marshall-Harris and Blackett were members of the Barbados delegation that travelled to Geneva in January to submit the country’s third report on the rights of the child to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
