GOVERNMENT will give the green light for the staging of the 50th anniversary of the CARIFTA Games in Barbados in 2021.
But Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley has cautioned it depends on the completion of a new National Stadium in that four-year time frame.
“It is realistic once we can get the stands [at the National Stadium] done. I think this is happening at a very good time,” Lashley told NATIONSPORT when asked about the prospect of the region’s most prestigious junior athletics meet returning to Barbados for the first time since 2001.
“The discussion has occurred and it is happening in Barbados where Barbadians recognise that we need to have a fully developed National Stadium and I am in total agreement with that,” he added. (EZS)
