CALYPSONIAN Michael “Mikey” Mercer made lifting 625 pounds look easy on the first day of the Strong Fest Competition.
On Saturday he recorded wins in two of three events at the Valley Fitness Zone in Dash Valley, and lost the bench press event to well-known bodybuilder Stevenson Belle of Surf Side Wellness Gym.
A trifecta of confidence, strength and technique came together to propel Mercer to the top of the pack early in the competition with 48 points.
The Bassa Bassa Gym competitor first dominated the squats with clean lifts of 425 pounds, 500 pounds and 515 pounds, respectively.
