Remittance tax plan a concern

MINISTER OF FINANCE Chris Sinckler is worried that remittances from the United States to Barbados and other Caribbean countries may be taxed.

Republican congressman from Alabama, Mike Rogers, introduced the “Border Wall Funding Bill” on March 30 to help fund US president Donald Trump’s proposed wall on the US-Mexico border.

It proposes a charge of two per cent on the US-dollar value of any money being sent to Barbados and 43 other countries covering Latin America and the Caribbean.

“It is something that is of concern to us,” Sinckler said of the bill. (LK)
