THE BODY OF Edwin Atherley washed up along the East Coast this afternoon, in the same area where he walked into the sea on Friday, before disappearing.

Acting police public relations officer, acting Inspector Stephen Griffith informed the NATION moments ago that Atherley’s body came ashore just after 1 p.m., and was later identified by a family member.

Atherley, of Lodge Road, Christ Church, was with friends attending the Barbados Labour Party’s annual commemoration of the birth date of party founder Grantley Adams at Barclays Park, St Andrew, when he decided to take a swim, taking off his clothes and entering the water.

Eye-witnesses say he went under and wasn’t seen again.

Earlier today, the BLP issued a statement of condolence, citing Atherley as a “family member”. (BA)
