TWO UNION LEADERS have ripped into former Central Bank governor Dr DeLisle Worrell, with one calling him “out of touch” with how poor people in Barbados are living.

A clearly annoyed National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) president Akanni McDowell yesterday fired a warning shot to any politician who followed Worrell’s advice to cut the public service, saying such would face a full onslaught from the 7 000-strong trade union.

In his first major public statement since being removed as governor in February, Worrell urged Government to urgently seek help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and to cut public service jobs in order to protect the dollar. (GE)
