UWI FEE HIKE

FROM NEXT YEAR, thousands of students at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill campus will have to dig deeper into their pockets to further their education.

Yesterday, the campus announced it would be increasing tuition fees in four of its five faculties for the first time in over six years.

It is the first increase since Government ceased paying full tuition fees for Barbadian students in 2013, but some students were unsure as to their future at Cave Hill.

“Tuition fees in the Faculties of Social Sciences, Humanities and Education, and Science and Technology will move from $5 625 to $6 000, an increase of 6.67 per cent . . . ,” a news release from the university said yesterday. (AD)
