Sheraton steps up fight against plastic
THE ISLAND’S largest mall is throwing its weight behind the banishment of single-use plastic bags in Barbados.
Yesterday Sheraton Mall’s owner and director Sharon Oran announced that a number of stores in the Christ Church complex will be initiating the levy on plastic bags from June 1.
A coffee shop will be offering discounts to customers who walk with their own reusable cups while a food establishment is ditching its styrofoam containers in favour of an eco-friendly brand.
Oran, who was speaking to the media, also revealed that the mall would be embarking on a year-long campaign to “educate and convey the message of marine sustainability”. (HLE)
