AT THE START of the Mr Bridgetown men’s physique contest, hardly anyone knew the 5-foot 5-inch Andre Clarke of First Fitness Gym.
By the end, he had become Andre the Giant, after a spectacular debut triumph at the annual Mr Bridgetown Championships on Saturday night at Combermere School.
Dynamite in a small package, Clarke took the top spot in the ten-man field, winning an absorbing showdown with pre-contest favourite Shone Springer of the Krackan Gym.
This had to be very close. Springer, with his bodybuilding background, was cut like a diamond. His rock-hard abdominals and intercostals caught the eye and made him the first choice pick for fans and some media personnel. (MK)
