THE GOVERNOR GENERAL of New Zealand Her Excellency Dame Patsy Reddy paid a courtesy call to Barbados Cricket Association’s officials at Kensington Oval today.
Much to her delight, she was able to finally meet one of her cricketing icons, and Barbados’ only living National Hero, Sir Garfield Sobers.
Dame Patsy also revealed that the boys in maroon would be touring New Zealand in November, after a four-year lapse. The last time the teams met, New Zealand won the Test series 2-1.
“At the moment it’s very exciting. I was not aware of it, and it was pointed out to me that the Test series between our two nations are drawn, with each having won the same number, so this series will be a decider as to who will have the upper hand. We’re looking forward to a very good contest,” she said.Â
The entourage, which included Dame Patsy’s husband His Excellency Sir David Gascogne and High Commissioner Jan Henderson, watched a short video of the history of Kensington, exchanged gifts and toured the Oval’s grounds before ending the tour in front of Sir Garry’s statue on the outside of the cricketing mecca.
