CHAIRMAN OF THE Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), Roseanne Myers, has challenged the team at Sandals Barbados to look beyond their resort to the “bigger picture” of the island’s declining foreign exchange reserves.

During her address at the annual Sandals Prestige Awards on Saturday night, Myers said that with the economic pressures that Barbados faced, including the reduction in reserves, a broader view was crucial.

“While you are in that ‘Sandals cocoon’, keep an eye on what is happening with the big picture destination because the work that you are doing becomes even more critical when we are out here fighting an economic battle that has become very difficult,” she said.

“We have a situation where the foreign reserves level is actually below the 12 weeks’ cover that we have targeted as comfortable for us to be operating in.” (TG)
