WEYMOUTH WALES held on to the slenderest of margins in order to claim the much coveted Digicel Premier League football title, when the penultimate round of matches concluded at the Wildey AstroTurf on Sunday.
An early Roy Richards own goal was enough to claim maximum points against Rendezvous, who came into the match just three points behind Wales, and could have themselves drawn level at the top with a win.
In other games, Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) also squandered their chance to draw level at the top before Wales had even kicked a ball, when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Notre Dame.
BDFSP had their chances in what was a must-win game, but ultimately succumbed to the pressure, as many missed opportunities meant their title dreams went with the final whistle. (ML)
