Cheers for Mia
OPPOSITION LEADER MIA MOTTLEY arrived at Parliament yesterday to deliver her reply to the Budget to an effusive display of support from Barbados Labour Party (BLP) faithful.
More than one hour before the scheduled 4 p.m. start of the House of Assembly, the colour red could be seen building outside the gates of Parliament – men and women wearing red shirts, red dresses, even red shoes and some people carrying red flags, a signal that supporters of the Opposition Leader would be turning out in their numbers on day two of the Budget Debate.
Like Tuesday, when Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler presented the Financial Statement And Budgetary Proposals, there was again a hive of activity around the Public Buildings, with a repeated heavy police presence.
This time, however, it was the growing crowd outside rather than the vehicles sweeping into Parliament Yard that kept officers busy. (GC)
