Securing region

TERRORISM not only poses a threat to the security of the region, but it could lead to it losing its place as a premier tourist destination.

This point was underscored by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart yesterday when he addressed the start of Exercise Tradewinds, the United States-led regional training response to natural disasters, terrorism and transnational organised crime.

“This year, Exercise Tradewinds is being conducted against the backdrop of a tense and uncertain global security environment, with many more flashpoints in existence now than was the case when the last Exercise Tradewinds was held in Barbados in 2012,” Stuart said during a ceremony at Barbados Defence Force headquarters.
