AFTER SEVERAL YEARS of undergoing structural repairs, the transitional home at Lancaster House, Lancaster, St James, was officially reopened yesterday.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Social Care Steve Blackett; China’s Ambassador to Barbados Wang Ke, whose government last year presented a $35 000 cheque towards the refurbishment of the facility and just recently provided several appliances; Barbados Labour Party St Thomas Member of Parliament Cynthia Forde; as well as National Assistance Board (NAB) chairman Senator Dr David Durant and NAB director Charyn Wilson.

Lancaster House will provide temporary accommodation for the elderly in particular, but for other people and families who have been dislocated as a result of fire, floods or other sudden traumatic events.

It is expected that the facility will house, at most, four families simultaneously. (SDB Media)
