$500 port fee
FROM JULY 1, truckers collecting items from the Barbados Port will have to clear their checked cargo in less than two hours or pay a $500 fee per shipment.
While Port officials say this fee is being implemented to ensure truckers remove their cargo on time, president of the Custom Brokers & Clerks Association, Louis Forde says the Port is also at fault for many delays.
As a result, he says the brokers will be meeting with the Barbados Port Inc (BPI) to discuss the matters before the due date to discuss the re-positioning fee from the commercial area at shed 4.
A source working in the port said this measure could negatively impact the truckers and ultimately the consumers who may feel the trickle down effects of the fee. (AD)
