Pine down Hawks in OT

DANGER AVERTED! Orange 3 Pinelands just avoided the worst defeat in the club’s history, clawing their way out of four double-digit holes before needing overtime to pull off Thursday’s 90-77 win over lowly Hawks in the Co-operators General Insurance Basketball Premier League.

It was another one of those poor defensive performances at the Barbados Community College, where the defending champs lost four of their previous seven games, including a 29-point blowout to Station Hill.

But this result threatened to be worse still, as the Pine surrendered 22 first-quarter points before going down by as many as 16 points (48-32) to an offensively-inept Hawks team that has beaten only the winless schoolboys.

And Hawks looked certain of the massive upset while entering the fourth with a 60-48 lead. (JM)
