Wilkie, St Jude’s reach semis
WILKIE CUMBERBATCH and St Jude’s claimed the last two semi-final places in the BICO Primary Schools’ Football Competition yesterday.
Wilkie Cumberbatch defeated St Alban’s 2-0. Raquan Clarke opened the scoring in the first half, curling a free kick into the top corner. Jean Luc Stoute finished it off by slotting the ball into the far corner past goalkeeper Kedene Fields.
St Jude’s were made to fight hard by Wesley Hall in a cracker of a match that went into overtime before they emerged 3-2 winners.
Amir Howard gave Wesley Hall the lead in the first half when he ran past the sweeper and fired past the goalkeeper. Javon Alleyne equalised when he pounced on a ricochet in the six-yard box and poked the ball home.
Thierry Corbin put Wesley Hall back into the lead in the first half of extra time. However, shortly thereafter St Jude’s captain Shamario Harewood curled a free kick around goalkeeper Zachary Alexander and into the top corner.
The score held until the last minute of extra time when Kishmar Burrowes sealed victory for St Jude’s.
The semi-finals will be played on Monday at the National Stadium, with St Giles facing Sharon at 10 a.m. and St Jude’s meeting Wilkie Cumberbatch at 11 a.m. (RA)
