THE BAJAN GEMS predictably made a winning start to the Summer Quad Netball Series today in the Republic of Northern Ireland by dismissing Ireland 55-21.

Host country Northern Ireland had earlier crushed the other competing team, Singapore 81-24.

The Gems led in all quarters after starting with captain Rhe-Ann Niles and Shonette Bruce in the defence circle, a midcourt of Damisha Croney, Sabreena Smith and Teresa Howell, along with shooters Shonica Wharton and Sheniqua Thomas.

Tomorrow, they meet Singapore at 5:30 p.m., and the key clash with Northern Ireland takes place on Wednesday. (KB)
