One more win and King in Wimbledon main draw
DARIAN KING is on the brink of history.
Barbados’ top-ranked tennis pro is now one step away from making a historic appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam after winning his second-round qualifying match at Wimbledon moments ago.
Playing on court 9 against American Bradley Klahn, the eighth-seeded King came from a set down to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in an hour and 35 minutes.
The result means 25-year-old King, ranked 119 in the world, will just have to win his final qualifying match to complete the feat.
He would become the first tennis player representing Barbados to do such and just the second Barbados-born player to play in a Grand Slam main draw after Martin Blackman.
King reached the second round of the Australian Open before losing to American Denis Kudla, and bowed out in the first round of the French Open to Hungarian Marton Fucsovics. (JM)
