Who will be the next GG?

THE CHOICE of a Governor General of Barbados has never been much of a talking point.

The job was often seen as one occupied by an elderly native who has given meritorious service to the country.

Yes, it has its privileges and perks, but was seen as distant from the average citizen – truly a ceremonial post.

The outgoing office holder, Sir Elliott Belgrave, has however changed all of that, and for the right reasons. The buzz about his successor comes with the comment that “whoever the person is will have a tough act to follow”. (ES)
