Darian waiting on luck of the draw after losing qualifying match
DARIAN KING’s Grand Slam breakthrough hangs in the balance.
Barbados’ top-ranked tennis pro is waiting to see if he’ll be drawn as a lucky loser to make the main draw of Wimbledon after losing today’s heartbreaking third-round qualifying match.
Playing former world No. 26 Lukas Rosol on court 6, King valiantly fought off two match points before eventually succumbing to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 defeat in two hours and 45 minutes.
A victory would have put the 25-year-old world No.119 into his first ever main draw of a Grand Slam and seen him become just the second Bajan player to achieve the feat.
As it stands King still has a chance to make history as he awaits a random draw between today’s four highest-ranked losers to see who gets in the main draw. (JM)
