St Catherine no match for UWI in T20 final
LENIKO BOUCHER hit a fluent half century to help Sagicor UWI successfully defend their BCA Sagicor General T20 title with a comprehensive victory over Crane Resort St Catherine at Kensington Oval last night.
Boucher’s Man-of-the-Match performance set the stage for a 65-run victory in a disappointingly one-sided contest.
UWI scored 145 for five after being forced to bat first, to which St Catherine replied with 80 all out from 18.4 overs.
Boucher, a diminutive right hander, played a mature innings of 56 off 48 balls, hitting two sixes and five fours in the process. His main ally was fellow opener Justin Bramble who made 26 out of an opening stand of 77.
Captain Nicholas Kirton provided a perfect finish to the innings with 29 not out off 13 deliveries.
St Catherine’s run chase was compromised from the first over when Shamar Cooke was run out.
Derek Bishop, who top scored with an undefeated 23, was one of only three players to reach double figures.
Marlon Welcome Goodman took three for 17 and Chemar Holder two for 11.
Sagicor UWI 145-5 in 20 overs (Leniko Boucher 56, N. Kirton 29 n.o., J. Bramble 26, R. Hinds 16 n.o.; K. Williams 2-22). Crane Resort St Catherine 80 in 18.4 overs (D. Bishop 23 n.o., D. Greenidge 15, A. Holder 15; M. Welcome-Goodman 3-17, C. Holder 2-11). UWI won by 65 runs.
