Northern Star shines

NORTHERN STAR confirmed his promise as the next super horse at the Garrison Savannah when he smashed the track record yesterday.

He won the feature Saleh and Khatija Mohamad Memorial Trophy Condition Race over 2 200 metres in breathtaking fashion from double Gold Cup winner Dorsett in what was billed as the clash of the heavweights.

It definitely lived up to its billing as the race from the two-furlong marker brought screaming spectators to their feet as the Derby winner had to dig extremely deep to hold off Dorsett in a gruelling home stretch duel.

No praise can be to high for the winning jockey, the much under-rated Antonio Perch, who was simply flawless and had enough time to look into the face of Dorsett jockey Jalon Samuel. (LY)
