NIS pulls in $11.7 in arrears
THE National Insurance Scheme (NIS) raked in $11.7 million in arrears during the recent five-month waiver on interest payment announced by Government.
And some $7.8 million in interest was waived between the October 1, 2016, March 1, 2017 period.
Providing the update in the Senate yesterday during debate on the National Insurance and Social Security (Amendment) Bill, 2017, Minister responsible for the NIS Esther Byer Suckoo said 147 employees submitted overdue payments.
She expects the next waiver to be just as successful and she encouraged “folks who have businesses and those with arrears to keep their ears to the ground and listen to when these things might come about.” (WILLCOMM)
