A JOINT OPERATION between court marshals and police netted ten drivers of public service vehicles (PSVs) who were wanted by the law courts.

Yesterday morning the combined team waited outside the Nursery Drive terminal where they stopped the drivers as they were exiting and apprehended them after they had offloaded the vehicles of commuters.

The vehicles were parked in nearby Queen’s Park while the offenders were placed in a van, some with handcuffs.

It is understood that they were wanted mainly for failure to pay court- ordered fines and failure to appear in court. Some of the offences dated back as long as three years.

They were all hauled off to St Matthias Court before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch. Some paid the outstanding fines while two were remanded to Dodds Prisons.

A team was later spotted in Eagle Hall, St Michael.

An official explained that this was the second time that the joint operation had been conducted. He said there was a backlog of work at the Court Marshals Office due to a shortage of marshals but they were moving to clear up old files. (MB)
