GENERAL SECRETARY of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Toni Moore, says the current situation in Barbados justifies trade unions and the private sector working together to force solutions by Government.
Moore defended the coming together of the two entities in the move to draw Government to the table for dialogue, as she responded to comments attributed to Prime Minister Freundel Stuart in reference to the alliance between the two during his address to a constituency branch meeting Sunday.
Speaking to the crowd assembled for a rally in Queen’s Park yesterday, Moore said: “In Barbados today all hands on deck means all hands on deck and whether you are a worker, whether you are an employer, whether you are a Government minister, whether you are a member of the Opposition, you are a citizen of Barbados . . . . We have to stand for our future.”
Private sector involvement, she argued, was just an extension of representation on issues that affected workers in both the public and private sectors. (GC)
