AAB to the rescue

TEAM BARBADOS is leaving for London today even without Government’s help.

The country’s medal-winning 4×100 relay squad won’t be missing the IAAF World Championships, as the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) put itself in further debt to ensure the entire eight-man team participates at next week’s games.

AAB vice-president Noel Lynch confirmed the news after the National Sports Council (NSC) failed to provide any grants to fund the trip to London.

“It’s a heavy burden on us obviously but we just didn’t think it was fair to our athletes to train all year, work so hard, qualify and then through no fault of their own not get to compete at the World Championships,” said Lynch. (JM)
