KOLIJ GOT THEIR CROWN. Tournament MVP Brandon Ruck scored a game-high 29 points, including 11 during Thursday’s decisive 20-0 first-quarter burst, as Kolij Lions stunned title favourites NexGen Green Monkeys 74-57 to take the Under-16 Summer Jam title at the Barbados Community College.

It capped a memorable tournament run for the predominantly Harrison College-based side, who bounced back from last-second losses to Green Monkeys and Pinelands in the regular season by beating them in the play-offs.

Payback couldn’t have been any sweeter either, considering the previously unbeaten Green Monkeys entered the final with six straight wins.

And Kolij wasted no time in tarnishing that spotless record, scoring 20 unanswered points towards the end of the first quarter to all but decide the contest within its first ten minutes. (JM)
