Pollard’s big hitting just not enough

KIERON POLLARD lashed a belligerent half-century but it was not enough to prevent Barbados Tridents from sliding to a defeat by 12 runs against Jamaica Talawahs in the fifth match of the Caribbean Premier League yesterday.

The captain belted 62 off 33 balls that contained six sixes but the Tridents, chasing 155 to beat the Tallawahs for the second successive day, were dismissed for 142 at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

When Pollard strode to the crease at 48 for three in the tenth over, the Tridents were slightly behind and the situation became perilous following the dismissals of big-hitting opener Dwayne Smith and the potentially dangerous Nicolas Pooran in the next over.

Pollard, however, responded with devastating effect to repeatedly bludgeon the ball out of the ground and give the Tridents some hope. (HG)
