MEMBERS OF THE public are being asked to avoid the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Accident & Emergency Department except in the case of life threatening injuries.

In a release issued around 9:20 p.m., the QEH said 15 people had been transported to the hospital suffering mainly from gunshot wounds and stab wounds. One person was involved in a vehicular accident.

Ten people were waiting to be seen in the A&E.

The QEH said the patients required the attention of general surgeons, orthopaedic specialists and ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists.

Another gunshot victim was being treated on the scene of a shooting while two people who witnessed that incident suffered panic attacks.

The hospital said it received an emergency response call at 7:15 p.m.  and the incident command was activated at 7:50 p.m. (PR/NB)
