IT WAS A case of role reversals in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

A magistrate became the court clerk. His clerk was a dapperly dressed defence attorney and the Registrar of the Supreme Court was an accused who was “hustled out” in contempt for answering her cellphone when court was in session.

The event was the Registration Department’s Moot Court and it was a part of the department’s 150th anniversary celebrations. There was a full house of onlookers, including law students, who witnessed the hilarious sketches.

The afternoon’s dramatic proceedings began with the hearing of a maintenance matter involving the parents of a 12-year-old who were arguing over $2 300 in maintenance money. That money was to be spent on school clothes and supplies but, according to the mother, the money was “lost” when she went to pay for her Kadooment costume. (HLE)
