THERE IS NO shortage of eggs and poultry in Barbados.
Though the recent hot temperatures have led to a rise in mortality and loss of productivity among the birds, the Barbados Egg and Poultry Producers Association has assured Barbadians that there is no shortage of supply and that the price of eggs has not increased.
“If your pens are constructed properly and you have fans, you should be fine. And with the rains we are getting that should not be a critical issue,” said Stephen Layne, president of the association.
“Over the years the industry has invested a lot of money in tunnel ventilated pens, which are computerised with fans that extract the hot air and pull in cool air,” he added. (SB)
